The Pug Puppy Shopping List: What You Need and What You Can Skip

Buying for a new pug puppy is fun. It is also incredibly easy to end up with a cart full of things the puppy outgrows, ignores, or turns into confetti.

Start smaller. Buy the basics, learn your puppy, then add what solves a real problem.

The useful starter list

1. Correct-size crate with divider. Enough room to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably.
2. Adjustable harness. Measure the puppy rather than guessing by breed label.
3. Lightweight leash.
4. Shallow food and water bowls.
5. Washable bed or mat.
6. A few safe chew toys. Not a toy store.
7. Food enrichment option. A simple slow feeder or food toy can grow with the routine.
8. Enzymatic accident cleaner. This will earn its keep.
9. Brush or grooming glove.
10. Dog nail tool.
11. Dog toothbrush and toothpaste.
12. Soft face-care cloths.
13. Waste bags. Many.
14. High-value training rewards. Tiny pieces are enough.

What you can usually skip at first

• Huge bags of one treat before you know the puppy likes it
• Expensive beds before housetraining is established
• Oversized harnesses “to grow into”
• A dozen puzzle toys at once
• Breed-branded products that do not solve a specific need

Teach handling early

Touch paws, lift lips, inspect ears, and gently handle face folds in tiny positive sessions. Future-you will be grateful.
